I struggled to figure out just exactly what this item was. Someone else helped me find it on a website called Early Office Museum. It is under small check protectors. I believe they would roll this over a signature so no one could alter it. To be honest I am not exactly sure how this protected anything. It is handheld has a loop at the end to but on a necklace or maybe keychain? To operate it you put the check into the center of the device (tongs) and squeeze it together while rolling it over the area. It produces a textured area. At first I thought it could be something used to cancel a ticket like to a show or movie as being used.

It is quite pretty it has a stamped ornate border and a spot in the center to maybe engrave a name or initials. It is very well made. Wasn't everything back then though! I imagine a young lady that possibly worked at a bank having this on a ribbon around her neck or quite possibly on her chatelaine. I have looked at it under a loupe and with bright light and cannot find a makers mark.

It measures roughly 2.5 inches in length, 1/3 of an inch across and at the widest point 3/4 of an inch deep.

If you would like me to put this item in a gift box, For an additional $1.00 (my cost) the option is under gift wrapping.

This item comes with free USPS Ground Advantage shipping, fully insured.

Thanks so much for looking! If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to me! I usually respond quickly.
