Vintage Art Deco Chunky and Wide Genuine Butterscotch Bakelite Bangle Bracelet
$42.40
Nice thick and chunky classic butterscotch Bakelite bangle bracelet. One of Bakelites most classic of pieces. Add a few of them together and they make that fun "clink" that only Bakelite does
This bracelet is a bit over 1.25 inches wide and is roughly about 1/8 of an inch thick. On my bracelet mandrel it sits at about 8.25 inches. the opening measures 2.75 inches across.
Previously owned and in good shape. It does have a very tiny black mark on it. I am not sure if it is a stain. I figured someone with more knowledge of bakelite would know what if anything can be done to fix it. There is also a spot on the inside of the bracelet where I tested to confirm it is Bakelite that is a bit lighter. Please see all of the pictures.
Bakelite Jewelry -
The extraordinary material, invented in the early 20th century, revolutionized the realm of jewelry with its vibrant hues, distinctive patterns, and unparalleled durability. Bakelite stands as one of the pioneering plastics, yet it diverges from its counterparts as it is not derived from fossil fuels. The credit for the discovery of Bakelite goes to Leo Baekeland, a Belgian-born chemist, who unveiled this groundbreaking material in 1907. Baekeland's invention sparked the development of a novel manufacturing process, involving the fusion of phenol and formaldehyde under heat and pressure. This process, known as polymerization, paved the way for the creation of robust and versatile products, including jewelry.
In the present day, Bakelite continues to captivate for numerous reasons, including its vibrant color palette and its sustainable nature.
Thanks so much for looking! If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to me! I usually respond quickly.
