Vintage Gorham Sterling Unicorn Pendant and Chain Necklace -

This is a gorgeous oval shape pendant that depicts the profile of a lovely unicorn and the left side of the frame is decorated with detailed roses and swirly ribbons. I believe it is antique or nearly antique. It is made from sterling silver and has 22k gold details such as the unicorns horn, some of the roses and ribbon. It comes on a twisted rope chain that has a spring ring clasp.

The back is stamped Gorham Sterling and the chain is stamped 925 Italy.

The chain measures from end to end 24 inches long. The pendant is a nice size at almost 2 inches long and 1.5 inches wide. Both weigh 17 grams.

Previously owned and in very good vintage condition. Has expected minimal surface scratches from normal wear and age.

Gorham Silver was founded in 1831 in Providence, Rhode Island by Jabez Gorham, a master craftsman, in partnership with Henry L. Webster. The firm's chief product was spoons of coin silver. The company also made thimbles, combs, jewelry, and other small items.

The unicorn appeared in early Mesopotamian artworks, and it also was referred to in the ancient myths of India and China.
