Vintage Purple Top Cowrie Shell, Amethyst and Abalone Artisan Necklace OOAK

This beautiful handmade tropical necklace. It would make a great vacation necklace. The main portion of this necklace is hand knotted amethyst chips and every 1.5 inches is a dangling purple top cowrie shell. I have lived on both the east and west coasts and never have I seen cowrie shells as pretty as these. Each has an oval spot on top that matches the color of the amethyst perfectly. All of these pretties go down and converge to a colorful abalone medallion. There is a pearl type fish hook clasp. Did you know that cowrie shells at one time were used as currency? They were in Egypt and other places too. It is no wonder, they are stunning!

It measures roughly from end to end 22 inches long. When laid flat the abalone section measures 3.5 inches by 2.5 inches. The cowrie shells measures roughly an inch long.

Previously owned and in great vintage condition. This item was made by an individual and has inconsistent nuances to it i.e. the shells may be different lengths apart or fastened differently etc. It feels well put together and does not feel like it will fall apart anytime soon.
